Uninterruptible Power Supply is also known commonly as a UPS. Who can deny the importance of a UPS in the modern day world? No body can do that. We are so much dependent on a regular and dependable power supply all the time that we just cannot afford to be without the provision of power supply even for few minutes. All the modern day facilities are very much dependent on the Power supplies all the time. All these things are very much dependent on the regular and uninterruptible supply of power.

In the earlier days power supply cut off was a major problem. Until recently the power shortage was not very uncommon even in the developed nations. But it was important that the operation of some of the machineries must not be affected by the shortage of power supply. This necessity created UPS. UPS is an uninterruptible power source which is in fact a battery back up.

A UPS works under a simple mechanism. This device has the power to run the machinery which is connected to it by using electric power when it is available. The UPS specializes in keeping the machinery running even if the electric power is cut off by supplying power through some other source. In this way the machinery keeps on working. In official environment UPS are very commonly used with the computer systems to ensure regular delivery of work in case of power failures.

A UPS may be offline kind. An offline UPS is not working while the electric power supply is regular. It comes to life only if the regular supply of electric power is cut off due to some reason. Some UPS are of online nature. These UPS also provide protection against the common problems of power failure along with providing electric power through other sources in case the regular flow of power is cut off.
